At the University of Illinois School of Medicine Dr. Schafer was given the Senior Research Award and an Exchange Fellowship for Research at the University of London, King’s College School of Medicine.
Dr. Schafer’s training includes a Straight Surgical Internship with emphasis in Plastic Surgery. He trained at the prestigious Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago and went on to teach at the Department of Surgery at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. He has taught anatomy at the University of California, San Diego and for years had an appointment to Scripps Clinic in La Jolla California.
With over twenty years of liposuction and fat grafting experience, Dr. Schafer is one of the leading researchers in the country. He was one of the first to bring SmartLipo, Slim Lipo and the Body Jet Water Lipo to the country. He has trained with all of the best teachers from all over the world including Drs. Pierre Fournier, Jeffry Klein, Marco Gasparotti, Alberto Goldman, H.Y. Lee and Hartmut Meyer. He is a national and international lecturer with TV appearances on the Discovery Health Channel, The Montel Williams Show , The Doctors and many local channels.
His office trains physicians and nurses and is a Center of Excellence for SmartLipo, SlimLipo and Body Jet. He is the developer of The Rejuvalift ™ for Stem Cell Breast and Face Lift. Dr. Schafer was recently appointed the Medical Director of the International Institute of Stem Cell Research and Regenerative Medicine.
